The Procedure

  1. Strategic points on the face may be marked as the appropriate injection sites for the filler. Photographs may be taken of the areas to be treated.
  2. The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. Pain at the injection site may be ameliorated by use of a very cold instrument to chill the skin, anesthetic ointment to numb the skin or injection of local anesthesia. While not painless, the injections are usually easily tolerated.
  3. Injection usually takes only a few moments per site. The process of injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result is performed, and additional filler added as needed. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the whole process may be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.
  4. Once the results are deemed satisfactory, any markings will be cleaned off. Ice can help to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Although the area may feel a bit tender for a day or two, it is usually not painful enough to require any medication.

Recovery Process

In order to avoid swelling, is recommended avoid drink alcoholic beverages or eat salty foods 24 hours after the treatment. Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area. Unless instructed by the doctor. All kinds of exercise are strictly prohibited the next 24 hours after undergoing the treatment.
Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.

Final Results

The results should be immediately and after healing, lips should feel natural with better structure, shape, and volume. Depending on skin type, lifestyle and, age, dermal fillers can last from 6 to 12 months.
