Septoplasty

A septoplasty´s main goal is to fix the septum in case it has deviated, leaning to one of the sides, or causing congestion on a nostril. A septoplasty, may correct structural problems on the septum that end up causing chronic congestion; birth or congenital defects, and breathing problems. ## The procedure The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, the treatment is completely done inside the nose, and this means that all of the incisions will be made inside the nostrils, some parts of the septum may be removed, or replaced with splints. Once with the septum corrected and the incisions closed, the surgeon will place some bandages inside the nose, to protect it. It will be necessary to breathe through the mouth during the first couple days. ## Recovery Process After three days the bandages may be removed, and breathing through the nose will be possible, even though swelling may be present during the first few weeks. The surgeon will tell you when it is okay to resume your regular activities.
