A breast reduction surgery is done to reduce and remove the excess of fat, glandular, and skin tissue of a breast, achieving a more proportioned size and relief a patient’s body discomfort in some cases. Patients who choose to undergo breast reduction surgery is mainly for medical reasons, in which some daily activities become challenging or they are simply unhappy for cosmetic concerns.
Breast Reduction Surgery can take from 2 to 5 hours. Anesthesia will be administered for better comfort. The surgeon will start with the incisions around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease. The extra skin, fat, and tissue will be removed and the nipple will be repositioned.
After the procedure, you will be instructed to wear a support girdle. A small and thin tube may be placed to the incisions to drain any excess of blood and fluids. Some patients return to work after the first week though you will have to limit exercise or any hard efforts for at least a month after the surgery.
The results are long-lasting. You will notice that you won’t struggle as much with body pain or physical limitations. Also, your figure will be more proportionate which can boost your self-image.
